Yesterday during choice time every child was interested in building and experimenting with different materials during choice time. Usually the Reuse Center is for 4 children at a time, but this time I decided to accommodate for 10, under the stipulation that they could each take out 4 materials at a time. They spent the time seeing what pieces fit inside each other, what could be stretched, stacked, squeezed, balanced, and transformed. Observing children experiment with reuse materials is always inspiring to me. They take objects that are often seen as mundane or trash to adults and make them new, beautiful, and exciting.
