From the Writing Table

During the usual whirlwind of morning play we noticed one table was especially quiet, and busy. Cheryl went over to see what was up. The children had set up a writing station.

"I'm writing lots of words." -Linny

"I'm writing MY name." -Lois

"What does this say?" -Seamus

"Can you spell my name?" -MacKenna

MacKenna: Can you spell my name?

Cheryl: M . . .

MacKenna: I don’t know how to do that.

Seamus: I know how. [He drew an M on his paper.]

MacKenna, then drew her own M.

"I know how." -Seamus

What a wonderful reminder of how much children learn from their peers and another special beauty of the mixed-age classroom.
